Recordkeeping & comp review

Expert OSHA 300 log and workers' comp file reviews for employers nationwide to lower your experience mod. First Link Safety challenges mis-logged injuries and tightens the paper trail that drives your premiums.

WHY IT MATTERS

Your experience mod is a multiplier on premium

Your experience modification rate (EMR) is what your workers' comp carrier uses to multiply what you pay each year. Above 1.0, you pay a surcharge. Below 1.0, you get a discount. Classifications, lost-time flags, and how quickly claims close all move that number.

We took one client from a 2.8 EMR to a 0.97 by working their comp claims, getting people back to work on time, and pushing files to resolution. That was about $350,000 a year in savings. Unless someone is bedridden, most clients have light duty work available. A strong return-to-work policy and a claims adjuster who stays on top of the file cut mod faster than letting cases drag.

Review the 300 log any time there is an injury, and at least yearly. Workers' comp files deserve a monthly look, whether that is us or your own team harassing the adjuster until documentation moves.

WHAT WE REVIEW

The full paper trail

Beyond the 300 log and comp claims, we can review training files, SDS, respiratory programs, medical clearances, JHAs, and pre-plans. Anything that should tell one consistent story when a GC, carrier, or OSHA asks.

  • OSHA 300 log accuracy and recordable classifications
  • Workers' comp claims: lost-time flags, closures, and return-to-work
  • Training files, operator cards, and site orientations
  • SDS, HazCom, respiratory programs, and medical clearances
  • JHAs, pre-task plans, and other job-specific documentation

This work is usually part of a retainer or broader engagement, though we are happy to scope a records-only project if that is what you need.

A REAL EXAMPLE

55 recordables that did not belong

One recent client had 55 injuries on their 300 log. None were applicable. We helped wipe the log clean and kept them off OSHA's radar.

Mis-logged recordables will not always show up on your premium bill the same way a comp claim does, but they can cost you contracts and visibility with OSHA. Fixing the file before someone else reads it is always cheaper than explaining it afterward.

HOW IT WORKS

From your EMR to a cleaner file

  1. Step 1: Share your starting point

Send your current EMR if you have it, plus what is open in the comp file. That tells us where a records review pays off fastest.

  2. Step 2: Review the file

We go through the 300 log, claims, and supporting records. Mis-logged injuries, stale certs, and gaps in the paper trail get flagged with a fix list.

  3. Step 3: Close the gaps

We help you correct records, challenge what does not belong, and push claims toward resolution so open files stop costing you on the next mod calculation.

FAQ

Common questions

What is an EMR and why does it matter?

Your experience modification rate is a multiplier on workers’ comp premium. Above 1.0 you pay a surcharge; below 1.0 you get a discount. Classifications, lost-time flags, and claim closures all affect that number, and real dollars.

Do you only review the OSHA 300 log?

No. Beyond the 300 log we review training files, SDS, respiratory programs, medical clearances, JHAs, and pre-task plans. Anything that should tell a consistent story under scrutiny.

Can you help lower an inflated mod?

Yes. We help challenge mis-logged injuries, tighten return-to-work, and push claims to resolution so open claims stop inflating the mod. One client went from a 2.8 EMR to 0.97 with roughly $350,000 a year in savings.

Is this only available as part of a retainer?

Often it’s bundled with ongoing support, but we’re happy to scope a records-only project if that’s what you need.

Do you work with carriers and employers nationwide?

Yes. Comp and recordkeeping issues travel with multi-state employers; we review files for clients across the United States.

Want a clearer read on your EMR and claims file?

Share your current mod if you have it, plus what is open in the file. We will tell you where a records review pays off fastest.
